Ghost island

A couple of miles into the ocean there is a semi translucent figment of an island.

Having not gotten that far from the mainland, Roll flies slowly over the waves, looking out to see if there were anything akin to whales or dolphins about.

there were some marine animals about, but they looked nothing like Roll was expecting. One creature looked like its back consisted of 7 shells the size of turtle shells with strange blue luminescent engravings on them. Despite its size and large body segment the thing seemed to move fluently through the water. It must be at least several meters long to be visible this clearly from the OWL.

other than strange animals, the island is perhaps most striking. The coasts look almost normal while the further one gets to the center of the island, where back on Kamehuva the rosebush stood, the more translucent it becomes, with the top entirely missing from the thing.

"Wish I had a camera big enough to capture a shot of that thing." He muses to himself as he watches a bit longer before turning his attention to the island. He blinks at it a few times, he had seen this in the vision from Rosebush? He must have since it was looking so odd. Deciding that was where he was going to go, the young man pilots the Owl to the coast line of the island and sets it down gently in landing.

The sand doesn't quite react like you'd expect from sand. Somehow it seemed rubbery, less consistent that it should be. Albeit barely, the ship won't sink away, Roll hopes...

"This doesn't seem like a very safe place to land." Roll mutters to himself, thinking maybe he should fly inland a bit to be on the safe side, but he decides this wouldn't be a good idea. "Come on Kiko, let's go explore this place." The young man opens the back hatch and slowly places his foot down on the surface. "This definitely matches with what I saw." He mutters, seeing the color of the water.

Roll was expecting soft, loose sand upon exiting on the beach, but it just felt softer and looser than even loose sand would. Every step would feel quite heavy as he seemed to sink into the land itself.

Kiko steps from the ramp happily onto the beach, finally getting the beach relaxation he was hoping for back on kamehuva, but as soon as he hopped in the sand twice, he jumped and frantically climbed up Roll's legs, making ample use of his nails for grip on Roll's clothes and skin to get up, away from the wrongness of that sand.

"I don't think we should say here long with how this sand or whatever is acting." Roll remarks, wincing a bit from Kiko's nails, but knowing he wasn't meaning to do to be malicious. He looks back at the landing struts to see if there was any sinking of them.

The landing struts did seem to be sinking a little bit more, but it's happening slowly. If Roll stands still, he can feel himself sinking away too, almost like quicksand except that this is dry.

Roll quickly moves to keep on top of this sand, but frowns a bit, as he does. "We'll have to make this quick. I do not want the Owl sink anymore than it has to the point we can't even leave." The young man makes a dash towards the center of this ghostly island. As he goes, he pulls out his phone and sets an alarm for eight minutes from then.

It won't take eight minutes before Roll realizes that how closer he gets to the center of the island, where the image is even fainter, the underground becomes more sluggish and it becomes increasingly laborious to get anywhere without sinking away. It seems only the outer parts of the island are tangible enough to somewhat comfortably walk given one doesn't stand still too long. At some point Roll will definitely feel a pang of panic when he realizes that if he stops walking for even a second, he might sink so far that it might render him incapable of recovering.

Roll's eyes dart back and forth as he tries stop, but finds himself sinking fast. Finding a sense of panic over washing him and his energy expenditure also increasing , Roll decides to just turn back and head for the Owl.

Upon returning Roll would find the landing pots being sunk almost half a meter now.

Swearing under his breath about the condition of the craft, Roll dart up the ramp. "Kiko, we're going somewhere else to explore, maybe that normal beach that's close by." Turning on the engines, Roll tries to get the Owl out of the sand and into the air.

The sand sucked on the landing pods and it took more effort than it should, but eventually the owl lurched free from the sand, shaking Roll and Kiko quite violently before resuming smooth flight.

Roll nearly fall from his seat as the craft shakes violently, but shakes his head as things return to normal. "Sorry about that Kiko. We are NOT returning to this place." He slowly pilots the craft back towards the main continent, maybe he'd find some place interesting near the beach or the forest.
