Spectrum
Name: Spectrum
Statistics:
NOTABLE CLIMATE ZONES: Temperate, Tropical, Desert, Mountain
CONTINENTS: Aethrar, Bushiduro, Northern Icefields, Southern Icefields
COUNTRIES:
Aethrar - Derodyne, Ascadeol, Baelcanstain, Alorcate, Afenhold
Bushiduro - Tomoshiken, Kumotan, Kaibu-Te
OCEANS: Sunscin Ocean, Eien Ocean
MOONS:Syfican, Geitsi
Description of the planet/area: Spectrum is a small planet with four main landmasses (but only two are fully colonized) and three oceans. Its northern and southern poles have historically been considered too cold to settle, but within the past couple hundred years, a few towns and cities have been made along the coasts. “Too cold” for Spectrum being relative, since most of its populated areas are temperate through most of the year. Near the coasts and equator, tropics and deserts are abundant. The notable exception being the northern country of Derodyne, which is almost entirely composed of mountains and sees frequent snow and frost.
Spectrum’s role in its galaxy is that of a battery. It is a huge source of magical energy, the likes of which roll off it in waves and disperse to nearby planets. It is because of this, in addition to its proximity to its sun, that most of the planet is capable of supporting life, and it is a popular vacation spot both for its health spas and its lively cities. This energy has also given Spectrum a reputation as a colorful and vibrant world, and many of its natives have powers relating to color, light, and pure energy.
It has two small moons, Syfican and Geitsi, both of which are populated and stay temperate year-round with mild summers and winters. They are still notably colder than most of Spectrum proper.
Brief history: The first evidence of human life on Spectrum is dated at about 3,500 years ago. To the west was the continent of Aethrar, and to the east was Bushiduro. Along with the first signs of life come the first signs of battle, and Spectrans seem to have started killing each other from the moment any of them met. Individual conflicts became tribal skirmishes became wars between countries as cultures grew and people just couldn’t get enough of trying to wipe everyone else out. Spectrum raged against itself for nearly 3000 years before the planet itself began putting a stop to the conflict, interrupting battles and toppling castles with natural disasters. Those who felt the closest connection to the energy contained within the world were able to discern what it was trying to do, and uneasy alliances were formed. Not every country was willing to join them in peace, but eventually, the constant wars were ended.
It’s only been in recent centuries that dignitaries from other planets have come to form interplanetary relations with Spectrum. In the past, no visitors to the world ever lasted very long. It has found itself a place with the worlds surrounding it, though, and has a modern civilization on par with planets like Eraklyon and Solaria. While its wars are over, the people of Spectrum have taken to other intense forms of leisure to expend all that energy. Martial arts is still common all over, especially for nobility and royalty, and fighting tourneys are massive events. Other sports are also popular, the more physically-involved and violent the better. Places like bath houses and hot springs are found aplenty, as they allow people to release their tension in more relaxing ways.
Culture/cultural influences on buildings and local populace: Aethrar’s historical aesthetic could be compared to western Europe on earth, particularly places like early Britain, Ireland, and France. Bushiduro is comparable to east Asia, with Japan and Korea having some close analogues. The two continents had a while to develop separately, so by the time they met and started fighting, their cultures were already distinct. Once more peaceful relations were forged, ways of life began to bleed together, and though each landmass is still predominantly represented by its historical leanings, it isn’t at all uncommon to find traits of one in the other.
Modern Spectrum has the typical benefits introduced by other planets, and outside of its historical locations, it’s easy to find fairly standard architecture and realm-wide cultural practices. Its reputation for color still carries over, though. A stereotypical Spectran is physically fit and dexterous, with high energy levels and a strong will. An Aethrarian is expected to be boisterous, and a Bushiduron is expected to be more level-headed. These are of course broad generalizations, and certainly not every Spectran fits this criteria.
Government type: Spectrum has one central government, ruled over by a roughly constitutional monarchy. The ruling family lives in the country of Afenhold, while the planet’s seven other countries all have nobility on a council that royalty consults in economic, military, and social decisions. While royalty is not necessarily required to follow the decisions of the council, they are subject to public opinion. The Vol Dragoons were instated as the first kings and queens because it was believed that they had the closest connection to the planet and could best interpret its wants and needs. If that were to change, there is an unwritten understanding that the council would take the crown from the line (by whatever means are needed) and a new monarchy would be established. Luckily, nothing indicates that things area heading in that direction at this time.
Beneath the planetary monarchy, countries have independent governments, with reigns of influence extending down to town mayors. While family lines and nobility do still play a large part in Spectran politics, nominated officials are becoming ever more prevalent, especially as you get down into smaller spheres of influence.
Important Cities, locations and Landmarks:
Olose: Capital city of Spectrum, home of the royal family and what first comes to mind for most people when they think of the planet. Arenas, racetracks, casinos, bars, huge hotels and historical landmarks aplenty, Olose seems like what would happen if someone put London, New York, and Las Vegas in a mixing bowl and beat it together into a bustling, historic neon rainbow slurry. A very popular tourist spot, especially for people looking for adventure and a good time.
Solcav: A large costal city to the south, Solcav is one of the hotspots for relaxation. Famous for its cuisine, especially its alcohol. While people go to Olose to get drunk and go crazy, people come to Solcav to get drunk and fall asleep on the beach under a large umbrella.
Deigola Tropics: An area dense rainforest and vibrant grasslands in the center straight of Aethrar, there are many nature preserves in the area one can visit to see famous Spectran plants and animals in their natural habitat.
Koyomi: One of the largest cities in Bushiduro, it, along with its surrounding villages and territories, is considered a haven for traditional Spectran art and intellectualism. It is home to the planet’s largest university, and it’s the kind of place that the Magix equivalent of the History Channel runs a new special on at least once a year.
Hayada Mountains: A deceptively scenic cluster of mountains in northern Bushiduro, the interior peaks are notoriously barren and difficult to navigate. It's because of this that the mountains are a traditional spot for anyone seeking an extreme physical challenge to try to cross the range.
Geitsi and Syfican: The two moons of Spectrum, they are where ancient and traditional culture still lives for Bushiduro and Aethrar, respectively. People throughout the magical dimension who are serious about combat, both physical and magical, spend time on one or both of the moons to undergo the training that made Spectrum such an imposing military force.
Trading partners/allies: Spectrum is a member of the general dimensional commerce market, trading with many other planets. It has no active enemies, but is always ready to defend itself against the numerous evil threats that seem to plague the magical dimension every couple of years. It is in good standing with other major planets, such as Solaria, Domino, and Andros, and will ally with them when those aforementioned threats make themselves known.

Additional Info
- Geography, Climate, Flora and Fauna:
- - The energy of Spectrum is what has given its planet an inclination towards vibrancy. It is a colorful planet and many of its inhabitants (people, animals, and plants included) have powers related to colors, shapes, or forms of pure energy because those are the channels through which the planet's own power mostly flows.
- Spectrum’s countries were named for the area’s most prominent tribes in the time before political lines were drawn, save for one. The climate zones on settled continents range from cold, dry plains and boreal forests to the north, tropics and deserts around the equator, and more temperate zones in between. As most of the planet stays warm for the majority of the year, anywhere cold (mountains, far north, etc) is usually less populated.
- The Sunscin Ocean (Aethrar’s west coast, Bushiduro’s east) is the largest and technically the oldest of the two oceans, as it is what surrounded the land before the continents broke up. It holds Spectrum’s Ocean Gate. Spectrans tend to stick near the equator when sailing for travel or pleasure, preferring the warmer waters, but exploratory and research expeditions have been held in the far north and south to document species and locations. The Eien Ocean formed between the two continents as they drifted apart, and is generally better-mapped than the Sunskin. Most of the best-known ocean creatures, plants, and formations are found in the Eien.
- All plant life in Spectrum, even in its driest and least habitable areas, has a natural vibrancy to it. A Spectran landscape is full of bold colors that maintain harmony with those around it, blending smoothly into different climates and terrains. Its most famous plant life comes from its tropical grasslands and forests, though the wildflowers of prairie fields and even the deeply-hued mosses of the colder forests are known across the realm for their striking beauty. Samples of geological specimen from Spectrum are similarly identifiable.
- Spectrum Lilies are famous for their infinitely wide range of hues - it’s said that they come in every color there is. Some are understandably more popular than others, but the plant is stubborn, and sometimes a batch bred specifically to produce and beautiful cerulean blue will include a few sickly green-brown flowers.
- South Kumotan Ebony is a wood valued both for its strength and its dark black hue with a barely-visible iridescent sheen. Only growing in a small region of Kumotan, Spectran botanists are very protective of the species due to its high demand in woodcrafting.
- Gero (“spike”) Blossoms grow in Baelcanstain’s northern region and are covered in thorns so sharp they were often harvested for arrow points. Today, the blossoms are popular motifs for tattoos and edgy artists.
- Paku sprouts, or spark sprouts, are a native Spectran vegetable well-known for being packed with nutrients, vitamins, and trace amounts of unaspected magical energy. They’re a huge health food, and like most vegetables, people are widely divided as to how good they taste and the best way to prepare them.
- Similarly, animal species native to the planet tend to be brightly-colored.
- Dinlor ("stripe") are one of the best-known of Spectrum’s native animals: huge cats with orange fur and solid dark stripes in colors that vary by individual. Native to the Alorcate region, they mostly stuck to the western grasslands and northern forests until the Alorcate tribe started brining them farther inland, even into the desert, to serve as weapons and companions. Wild dinlor today are still found in these regions in small numbers, and there is still a small but deadly Dinlor Cavalry in Alorcate’s standing army. The royal family also has a stable in Olose. They are fierce predators but can be trained well when put in capable hands. Like most feline species, they’ve never really been domesticated - they’ve just come to realize it’s easier being housed and fed by humans than living out on their own.
- Spire Amphithere are found only in the highest altitudes of Derodyne. An exceedingly rare creature, their fair coloring makes them hard to see against the pale sky and snow-topped mountains. The only real tell is the hard shine of the sun off their ice-like wing membrane. Only dead specimens have ever been actually handled by humans, and they deteriorate quickly when brought down from the mountain peaks.
- Spiral Gecko are common around the world and fairly innocuous. Coming in a variety of bright colors and distinguished by the spots along their body and the spiral marking at the base of their tail, people living in warmer areas frequently find them sneaking inside houses or buildings. They’re commonly kept as pets, both on and off Spectrum. Their spiral lights up when they feel threatened.
- Government:
- - The Council of Nations is Spectrum’s global governing body. A roughly constitutional monarchy, the royal Vol Dragoon family heads the council, which convenes on things such as economics, civil matters, and military action. The council usually meets in the royal palace in Olose, though meetings can move depending on social climate, events, or the main subject matter of the meeting.
- The royal family still has final say in all decisions, and strictly speaking, they do not have to follow the majority vote. Common belief holds that the Vol Dragoon family is deeply connected the the magic of Spectrum itself, and they have the deepest understanding of what will be best for the planet as a whole. It’s also still believed that if they ever did act in a way that only furthered their own power to the detriment of the people, the planet would rise against them as it did to stop the wars. Additionally, they are still subject to public opinion. Though not officially sanctioned anywhere, there is an understanding that if the royal family makes decisions in a way that’s widely regarded to be detrimental to the rest of the world, they council has a responsibility to overrule them. By force, if necessary.
- Royalty and nobility is still kept within family lines, though it is becoming more common for elected officials to reach levels of power that put them on roughly the same level as nobility, even politically outranking the lower echelons of barons. National-level councils are held by cabinets of elected officials, whose concerns and issues are brought to the global Council of Nations. All government positions going down to smaller and smaller spheres of influence are elected.
- Knighthood is still attainable, and can be granted through acts in defense of Spectrum, though most recipients these days are noted artists, scientists, or community leaders.
- Culture:
- - Aspects of a stereotypical Spectran: physically strong and dexterous, mentally strong-willed, high energy, boisterous (Aethrar), level-headed (Bushiduro).
- Common negative stereotypes: disrespectful, violent/savage, uncultured, unintelligent
- Common positive stereotypes: Friendly, loyal, honest
- Naturally, these are all broad generalizations with varying degrees of accuracy. The people of Spectrum are diverse and someone with any type of character and personality could be found there.
- People who live on Spectrum become accustomed to a certain amount of ambient magical energy. When moving in from another realm, it can be overwhelming if they move to a busy part of the planet. Conversely, someone moving away from Spectrum (especially from an area of more concentrated energy) will experience some lethargy and sluggishness until they can acclimate to the ambient magic levels of wherever they have ended up. Some cannot handle this as well as others, and turn to amphetamines to try and recapture the lost feeling of energy. It doesn't work, but it has lead to some people stereotyping Spectrans as drug-addicts.
- The most popular tourist destinations tend to be where Spectrum's energy collects most. The constant buzz produced by sporting arenas and casinos and packed streets tends to make some people who are unaccustomed to the flow a little "high" and keep them awake for days, only to crash once they leave. Non-native Spectrans are especially susceptible.
- The magical energy that Spectrum radiates is easily absorbed by its people, which was a large cause of its violent past. Casinos, bars, fancy hotels, sports - most of modern Spectrum was designed to keep people from killing each other and let out their energy into non-lethal activity. However, martial arts and (non-lethal) gladiator tournaments are still the most popular sports of Spectrum and hailed as important parts of its history. Royalty and most nobility are taught physical and magical fighting throughout their entire lives as a testament that Spectrum's great power still remains. Those serious about fighting tend to learn ancient Aethrarian or Bushiduron language, depending on where and in what style they're training, to honor the original work and teachings of their predecessors.
- Conversely, health spas, nature reserves, and meditation retreats are just as popular for people who wish to relieve their pent-up power in less active ways. Spectrum natives use these areas to syphon off uncomfortable excess energy, while people from other worlds enjoy the restorative properties, especially the sick or wounded who find it easy to channel the ambient magic into recovery.
- Holidays:
- - Domgleng Day/Bukyoda Day - Two similar Aethrarian and Bushiduron holidays were smashed together to create this day spent celebrating brothers and sisters. Siblings were very important in ancient Spectrum since you could count on them to back you up if your tribe got into a fight, so it was important to honor and respect them. The celebration used to include presenting to your sibling the head of one of his or her enemies, but today that has been replaced by giving them a necklace braided from very fine metal strands of different colors. You start making these as soon as you have the manual dexterity to. You keep the necklaces you receive and wear them on that day every year (not necessarily on your neck, if you have a lot of siblings and/or you are very old. They can attach to belts, be wrapped around the wrist, hang off walking sticks, etc.). Necklaces are buried with people when they die. It's possible to buy the necklaces pre-made, but the purpose is really to take the time to make a gift and show your appreciation (even if it's a piece of crap, it's the thought that counts). It can also be extended to very close friends who are like siblings. Takes place mid-spring.
- Summer and Winter Solstice - Both of these days are major celebrations on Spectrum, days when even the hardest working take some time to relax and party it up with their friends and family. Traditionally, the Summer Solstice was seen as the time of year when the planet’s power was at its peak, giving all who inhabited it the most energy. The Winter Solstice is when Spectrum bides its power and fills its reserves. Thus, the summer celebration is usually more rowdy and the winter celebration more lazy, though in present day, it more depends on how individuals choose to celebrate them.
- Alliance Day - A celebration of the final day of Spectrum’s talks to end the constant wars and work together towards a happier and safer future. It’s sort of a combined Independence Day, Veteran’s Day, and Memorial Day, meant to be taken as a time to reflect on what was lost in the past and how it has helped shape the present. Massive and brilliant fireworks are a tradition once the sun goes down.
- History:
- - The planet of Spectrum was created by the Great Dragon as a source of power for the magical dimension. Within its core is more magical power than one can imagine, leaking out and soaking in to all of the planets around it.
- Spectrum was pretty much at war with itself from the time its first inhabitants met each other until about six hundred years ago. Contact with outside worlds was minimum and it normally resulted in fighting. Fighting between families within tribes, between tribes within regions, between regions within continents, and between the two continents was a constant.
- As the various groups continued to fight each other, their battles escalated in scale and casualties, and the planet was in a state of constant chaos. As if the planet itself was protesting against all the fighting, battles started to be interrupted by great earthquakes, separating the armies without killing them. Massive storms would interrupt navy fleets on raids, droughts made dry areas impossible to cross, and volcanoes would erupt where strategic bases were planned to be constructed.
- An alliance was formed of tribes looking to end the wars and let the planet and its people continue in peace. Others were not so willing to lay down arms, but the growing demand by the common people eventually forced the rulers' hand, and an agreement was reached among the clans to negotiate a lasting peace. Dignitaries from other planets were often there to help guide Spectrans in civil meetings, since the last 3,000 years of war hadn’t offered them much practice in diplomacy. Spectrum and friendly planets alike have well-known stories of the physical confrontations that were just barely contained within the meeting halls. This is also when Common began to take over as the most spoken language of Spectrum.
- Countries established and peaceful negotiations underway, the Council of Nations was established. The Dukes and Dutchesses of each country were to be members, representatives of the nobility and working class that they governed. There was much debate over who would be the King and Queen of Spectrum as a whole and the head of the Council. In the end, it was agreed that the Vol Dragoons would lead the planet well. King Veoriz and Queen Ethia took the first throne of Spectrum in Olose, the capital city of their country Afenhold.
- With the constant wars behind them, the people of Spectrum still felt a restlessness about them due to the planet's innate power still flowing through them. They still needed something to channel their energy into. Sporting and competitions of all sorts began to spread around Spectrum quickly, offering a way to expend physical, magical, and mental energies. Conversely, large gatherings of friends and family in places such as bath houses or spas allowed people to relax and enjoy themselves, dispersing their pent-up energy in less dynamic ways.

Re: Spectrum
You do not have to follow the exact format I suggest for the planets at all. You can do what Nikkie and Raven have and add in extra bits of information to give it that extra flare.
Re: Spectrum
24 hours. It is a part of the same solar system as Magix, Solaria, Eraklyon, etc, and they all, for whatever reason, run on systems identical to Earth (since all time references made in the show stay consistent no matter what planet the Winx girls are on). Since Spectrum is a part of that same system, it does, too.
I have been working on putting together more info, I've just been a bit distracted recently |D I'm trying to summarize from what I have in my notes because I have a lot of detail that nobody but me would care about, and I don't want to just post a massive block of text. I want to keep the info here accessible to people who would need it.

Re: Spectrum
From what we understand all these planets are in different systems. Solaria is a trinary system while Eraklyon is a single star. Spectrum could be in the same system as magix or Eraklyon, but not all three at once.
Re: Spectrum
Oh derp, I could have sworn at least Magix and Eraklyon shared a system but I forgot about Solaria's billion suns. It shares a system with Magix.

Re: Spectrum
I added a bit of statistical info and made a few smaller adjustments to the first part of the planet profile, because I think it still contains the bare necessities of info for someone who just wants a quick glance at the world. I did add more detail, though, in spoilers to conserve space.
I still have more, if it's needed :B

Re: Spectrum
Question, are there professional fighting arena's on the planet and these people get paided to fight?
Re: Spectrum
Yes! Professional fighting is huge, and fighters are like any other paid athletes. There are also tons of open events that non-professionals can join, but the invitationals are what people get really fired up for. Places like coliseums, arenas, and boxing rings are very popular venues for professional fights. And since it was also asked over Skype, there are divisions for physical martial arts, magical combat, and mixed.
It already looks like I should add more about the professional and amateur combat culture, but I still have more about the world in general too if you guys actually wanna see it XD

Re: Spectrum
I've got plenty of more specific places available to make locations out of, just let me know who to send them to and how much information you want me to provide for the location topic OP. I'd make the topics myself but I don't know that I'm allowed.
